Beautiful Broccoli, Killer Kale, and Leafy Lettuce ... plus CSA DAY!!

Hi everyone,

It's been a busy week on the farm, with a couple particularly noteworthy events. On Wednesday we mowed our first section of cover crop, which, after 3 months of growth, was about chest-high. We weren't planning on cutting that section for another week, but with the rain forecasted for Wednesday night, I decided we should go ahead and get it done, rather than be delayed by wet soil. That plot will be ready for our first planting of sweet corn on 3/20, which we hope to begin harvesting for the Farm Box in mid-June.

This week we also had a staff retreat dedicated to strategic planning, where we exercised our brains and talked through some really tough questions about the impact we want Veggielution to have in our East San Jose community. Taking a full day for all seven of us to sit down together and have these conversations will be crucial in defining our organizational focus and our vision for the next 3-5 years.

You may have already seen the email from Emily earlier today, but Summer Farm Box registration is almost upon us! We will be opening registration for the 2016 Farm Box on CSA Day, next Friday February 26th. When you sign up on CSA Day, you'll get a free Veggielution canvas tote bag. Keep an eye out for more information from me, and get excited!!
