Del Campo a la Mesa (CALM)

With funding and support from First 5, Veggielution provides a weekly farm box to 100 San Jose families with children to support the healthy growth and development of children and their families.

The CALM box distribution program is full and no longer taking sign-ups for box recipients.

Veggielution’s Box Distribution History

In Fall 2024, the Eastside Connect box distribution program ended and is no longer taking sign-ups for box recipients.

In March 2020, Veggielution launched Eastside Connect, a program through which we distribute fresh produce to low-income East San José residents who are experiencing the brunt of the COVID-19-related shutdowns. While Eastside Connect was initially launched as a direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic, it has quickly become a central strategy for us to connect people from diverse backgrounds through food and farming. The vision for the program covers many important goals:

  • Demonstrate more innovative and climate-resilient methods of growing, processing, and distributing Veggielution produce,

  • Explore ways that an urban farm operation can further increase economic mobility of East San José residents.

  • Meet the unserved need to build sustainable, local, even neighborhood-level, food systems that value lived experience and prioritize opportunities for historically impacted communities to lead and innovate.

  • Further Veggielution’s role as a culinary and community centerpiece that celebrates East San José by bringing diverse cultures and residents together to promote economic development, cross-cultural exchange, and shared learning opportunities at Emma Prusch Farm Park.

  • Shape public dialogue about food systems and the environment by connecting people to the land and food, to each other, and to diverse cultures across the barriers that divide us.

  • East San José residents as well as visitors and volunteers (that’s SVBC!) from many other areas to find a shared space for conversations on systemic change through intentional leadership development and community organizing.
