WHAT’S A COMMUNITY FARM? IS THAT LIKE A COMMUNITY GARDEN?

Sort of. A community garden is split into separate parts, and each person has their own space. Our community farm is managed as a whole, so everyone can participate.

HOW MUCH LAND DOES VEGGIELUTION HAVE?

We've grown a lot from our humble beginnings in backyard garden plots. Currently, we farm 6 acres located in the back of Emma Prusch Farm Park.

WHO OWNS THE LAND?

The land is part of Emma Prusch Farm Park, which is a San Jose City Park. It is owned by the City of San Jose.

WHAT IS THE EMMA PRUSCH FOUNDATION?

The Emma Prusch Foundation is a non-profit that was established at the same time as the park. Their mission is to ensure that the master plan of the park is followed, and that the park maintains San Jose’s rich agricultural heritage and a rural country feel.

DO YOU HAVE ANIMALS AT THE FARM?

Veggielution has 20 chickens in our hen house.

Most of the animals around the park belong to the Emma Prusch Foundation. The Emma Prusch barn houses cows, pigs, rabbits, and sheep, and you can also find turkeys, peacocks, and guinea fowl roaming the premises, all of which are taken care of by 4H.

WHY WAS VEGGIELUTION CREATED?

Veggielution Community Farm was created in 2008 to help people make healthy food choices and provide opportunities for connecting with the natural world. We are fostering a sustainable food system through our urban farm that engages the community by providing access to organic and local food, creates youth leadership opportunities, and develops creative solutions to environmental and social justice issues.

HOW IS VEGGIELUTION FUNDED?

We are funded through a mix of foundation and corporate grants, individual donations, and farm revenue.  Veggielution is very thankful for the financial support that helps to keep the farm running. To find out more about which organizations are helping to fund Veggielution, check out our Friends and Supporters Page.

WHERE DOES THE FOOD GO?

Our goal is to distribute 70% of our crops at low cost or free to the community. We do this through our Farm StandFarm Box, volunteer give-aways, and soup kitchen donations. The remaining 30% is sold for revenue at market price.

ARE WE A NON-PROFIT?

Yes, we are a 501c3 tax-exempt organization. Our Tax ID # is 27-2021333.

CAN I HAVE AN EVENT OR PARTY AT VEGGIELUTION FARM?

As a part of the Emma Prusch Farm Park, which is owned by the city of San Jose, Veggielution is currently unable to make accommodations for parties and events. However, as Veggielution continues to grow, we may consider providing accommodations for events and parties in the future, so check back later.
