New Cooking Matters Classes

Julia Lang January 16, 2013

Happy New Years fellow Veggielutionaries! This new year is promised to be one to remember. The last month at the farm can easily be characterized as a time of great transformation and change as we continue to complete the projects started during NVIDIA's Project Inspire.

As we enter the new year we are preparing for our next round of Cooking Matters, a free cooking and nutrition course taught in Spanish by our wonderful peer educators, Los Promotores. This session we will have a class every weekday that the farm is open, Tuesday-Friday from 10am-Noon. Classes are recurring weekly and will run for a total of 6-weeks.

For those of you who may be unfamiliar with our Cooking Matters course, it is a class designed to combine fundamental nutrition with a hands-on cooking demonstration. The 2-hour long class begins with the nutrition portion inside of a classroom at Veggielution and the second hour will move to our outdoor kitchen where participants help cook a dish pertinent to the days lesson. At the end of each class, participants will be given a small amount of fresh vegetables from our 6 acre farm. The goal of these classes is to create a community where all members participate and share information/tips/stories about nutrition, cooking, and food. If you are interested in us hosting these classes in English, let us know.

The upcoming Cooking Matters schedule for sessions beginning in January:

1/22/2013-2/26/2013 Tuesday 10:00 AM 12:00 PM @Veggielution, Spanish

1/23/2013-2/27/2013 Wednesday 10:00 AM 12:00 PM @Veggielution, Spanish

1/24/2013-2/28/13 Thursday 10:00 AM 12:00 PM @Goss Elementary School, Spanish

1/18/2013-3/1/2013 Friday 10:00 AM 12:00 PM @Veggielution, Spanish

If you have any questions, or would like to join a class, or would like to request an course in english please contact Diego at 408-964-8691 orDiegoo@veggielution.org.

We look forward to seeing you out at the farm! Come start the new year off with a day full of healthy work, healthy food, and a healthy community!
